Our monthly meetings are designed primarily for bereaved adults, including parents, grandparents, and adult siblings. If you have questions about younger siblings attending or would like help finding age-appropriate grief resources, please contact us before the meeting.
Most people don't know anyone at their first meeting.
Before long, many discover they have found a community of people who truly understand the unique experience of grieving a child, grandchild, or sibling. One conversation can be the beginning of lifelong friendships built on compassion and shared understanding.
Yes.
Many of our members have been attending for years, while others are joining for the first time after carrying their grief alone for a long time. Grief has no expiration date, and everyone is welcome whenever they feel ready to seek support.
Absolutely.
There is no required waiting period. Some families attend within weeks of their loss, while others wait months or years. You are welcome whenever you feel ready.
No. Our chapter welcomes families regardless of the circumstances surrounding their loved one's death.
Whether the loss was due to illness, accident, suicide, homicide, overdose, military service, pregnancy loss, or any other cause, you will find understanding and acceptance here.
You are welcome here.
We recognize that every loss is significant, including miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, and pregnancy loss. Your grief is valid, and your loved one will be remembered with compassion and respect.

Many first-time visitors find comfort in bringing a spouse, family member, or trusted friend for support.
You might—and that's okay.
It's okay to cry. It's okay to laugh. It's okay to sit quietly. Every emotion is welcome, and you'll be surrounded by people who understand that grief affects everyone differently. This is a place where emotions are understood and accepted.
No. Sharing is always optional.
Many first-time attendees simply listen. Others find comfort in sharing. Either choice is perfectly okay.
Everyone attending has experienced the death of a child, grandchild, or sibling. While every grief journey is unique, you'll be surrounded by people who understand the profound impact of this kind of loss.
Absolutely.
Many families find that peer support complements professional counseling. Sharing with others who have experienced a similar loss can provide a unique source of understanding alongside therapy.
Nothing is required.
If you would like, you may bring a photo of your loved one or another meaningful keepsake, but it is entirely optional.
Most meetings last approximately 60–90 minutes, depending on attendance and discussion.
Only if you request it.
Some attendees appreciate follow-up information or additional resources, while others prefer simply attending meetings. We respect your privacy and your wishes.
There is no expectation or requirement.
Some members attend every month, while others come only when they feel the need for additional support. We encourage you to participate in whatever way is most helpful for your healing journey.
The Compassionate Friends is a non-denominational organization that welcomes families of all faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds. While individuals may share what has helped them personally, our meetings are centered on compassionate peer support through shared understanding and remembrance rather than promoting any particular religious or spiritual perspective.
Yes.
Confidentiality is one of the foundations of our chapter. We ask everyone to respect the privacy of those who attend by keeping personal stories and discussions within the meeting.
Absolutely.
While we primarily serve families throughout Eastern Arkansas, anyone seeking compassionate peer support is welcome to attend our meetings.
Our monthly support meetings are intended specifically for bereaved families.
However, we welcome volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community supporters who would like to help with our events, outreach efforts, and chapter activities. There are many meaningful ways to support our mission outside of the support meetings.
We understand that taking the first step can be difficult. If you have questions about our meetings, would like to speak with a chapter leader, or simply want to know what to expect, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're happy to answer your questions and help you feel comfortable before your first visit.
Grief has no timeline, and there is no "right way" to grieve. Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, whether you've never attended a meeting or are returning after time away, you'll be welcomed with compassion and understanding. The Compassionate Friends of Eastern Arkansas is here to walk alongside bereaved families because we understand the lifelong journey of losing a child, grandchild, or sibling. Whenever you're ready, we'll be here to welcome you.
